The Tijaniyya Order in Ghana (Gold Coast)
The Tijaniyya order entered the state of Ghana at the time of the emergence of Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse al-Kaolakhi (may Allah be pleased with him). The people responded to his call and came in large groups to the city of Kaolack. Sheikh Ibrahim visited Ghana—Accra and Kumasi—more than twenty times. As a result, the Fayda (spiritual outpouring) spread throughout Ghana. Most of his followers do not adhere to anything except what was transmitted from Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse al-Kolokhi (may Allah be pleased with him), or from Sheikh al-Tijani (may Allah be pleased with him), or from the Prophet ﷺ.
Among the well-known sheikhs of the Tijaniyya in Ghana are:
Sheikh al-Hajj Muhammad Tharom
Sheikh Ahmad Bab al-Wa‘iz
Sheikh Abubakar Garba al-Hakim
Sheikh Adam Bab Makranta
Sheikh Malam Harun
Sheikh Thalith Sha‘ban
Sheikh ‘Abdullah Mikanu
Sheikh Muhammad Tan Teni
The Grand Imam, Sheikh Nuh Sharubutu
Sheikh Yahya al-Amin
And there are many others.
