The Preachers Who Introduced Islam in Burkina Faso

The preachers who brought Islam to Burkina Faso were Sufis who followed the Ash‘ari creed—this is a statement about which there is no disagreement.
As for contemporary scholars engaged in Islamic الدعوة (preaching) in Burkina Faso who are still alive as of 2024, they are very numerous. For the sake of brevity, we will mention only some of the most well-known figures within the country:
Sheikh Abu Bakr Doukouré
Sheikh al-Hajj Mahmoud Bandé
Sheikh al-Hajj Abu Bakr Qasim Sana
Dr. Sayyid Muhammad Maïga
Dr. Khalid Sana
Sheikh Sa‘id Maïga Kogorsi
Dr. Muhammad Ishaq Kendo
Sheikh Sawadogo al-Wa‘izi
Sheikh Adam Hourima
Dr. Ahmad Sawadogo
Sheikh Yusuf Yagani
Sheikh ‘Umar Kouma, son of al-Hajj Ya‘qub
Sheikh ‘Umar Kabouré
Sheikh Hassan Sanfo
Imam ‘Abdullah Ouedraogo, the Grand Imam of Burkina Faso
Sheikh Dr. Ma‘ani Gamsouri
Dr. Sayyid Muhammad Sawadogo
Teacher Isma‘il Diarra
Dr. Hassan Souri
Dr. Ibrahim Diallo
They are very numerous, and there are also active, educated young preachers from the community outside the country—in Côte d’Ivoire, Mali, Nigeria, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia—who are working diligently day and night to spread Islamic teachings both داخل Burkina Faso and beyond. Praise and thanks be to Allah.
Note:
Dr. Muhammad Ishaq Kendo (mentioned as number 7), Dr. Ahmad Sawadogo, and Sheikh Hassan Souri are described as holding stricter views, as they follow the opinions of Ibn Taymiyyah and Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhab. Sheikh Hassan Souri may sometimes adopt a moderate position, while the other two and their followers are said to continue causing division in Burkina Faso. It is also stated that Muhammad Ishaq Kendo was the first in Burkina Faso to issue a ruling declaring that the Ash‘aris have a share of disbelief, and that he considers Sufis to be innovators. We ask Allah for safety.
