The Tijaniyya Order in Burkina Faso

The Tijaniyya order is the majority group in Burkina Faso, with its two main branches:
The Hammāwiyya (followers of Sheikh Ahmad Hamahullah)
The Fayda (followers of Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse)
The Tijani followers have thousands of zawiyas (spiritual centers) across the country.
Among its most well-known sheikhs are:
Sheikh Abubakar Maïga (may Allah have mercy on him)
Sheikh ‘Abdullah Doukouré
Sheikh Sayyid Muhammad Maïga (may Allah have mercy on him)
Sheikh Ahmad al-Tijani Dori
Sheikh ‘Abd al-Rahman Bouling Yargo
Sheikh ‘Abd al-Rahman Sab Louissi
Sheikh Ibrahim Taslim
Sheikh Yusuf Tinsalga
Sheikh Ya‘qub Wahyugiya
Sheikh ‘Isa Yagni
Sheikh Yusuf Mougandi
Sheikh Muqaddam Mukhtar Dimi
Among the contemporary figures are the sons of the aforementioned sheikhs, such as:
Dr. Muhammad Misrawi
Dr. Khalid Sana
Dr. Muhammad Ouedraogo
Sheikh ‘Umar, son of Sheikh Ya‘qub
Sheikh Yusuf Yagni
And many, many others—praise and thanks be to Allah.
As for Sheikh Jaber Kograssigué and his sons, as well as Sheikh ‘Atiq Tanbizissi and his brothers, they were all affiliated with the Qadiriyya order. Through the efforts of these noble sheikhs, Islam spread throughout Burkina Faso.
Today, there are also a few smaller groups present in Burkina Faso, such as more strict Salafi-oriented groups, the Ansar movement, and the Ahmadiyya.
